My friend posted this spinning girl on her blog today and it tells you that if you see the girl spinning clockwise, you are more right-brained and if it spins counter clockwise, you are more left-brained.
When I first saw it, I was amazed and I studied it over and over. I came to the conclusion that it is fake. I believe if you watch it long enough, the girl turns around and spins in the other direction. She swears it is just my weird mind seeing the image in 2 different ways but I am not convinced!!! There is a mini debate going on as to what everyone thinks is right.
What do you think? Does the girl switch directions or does your mind make her switch?
It’s an optical illusion!!!

It can’t be fake because it’s an animated gif. It can’t change the spinning direction randomly for that reason. I’ve shown this image to many friends. Most of them see it spinning counter clockwise but few people, including myself, see it spinning clockwise. That would support the known fact that most people are left-brained.
I’m sure that if I sat here with a left-brained person and we watched the animation at the same time, we would see it spinning in opposite directions.
Also some of my friends can change the spinning direction effortlessly. Those are people whose brains are pretty balanced. They use equally both the left and the right side of their brains.
You should test this and watch the animation together with a left-brained person and see if it spins in opposite direction for your friend.
I saw it going clockwise, but couldn’t make it go counterclockwise. . . I already knew I was very right brained though!
Years ago my son and I decided we were “hybrids”, 50:50 right-left brainers. So we LOVE these kinds of exercises! Yes, I too was able to reverse the dancer. But, get this: When reading and mentally focusing on and flipping back and forth between the items in the characteristics list, uses logic vs. uses feeling, etc., the dancer reverses! Oh the brain is amazing.
If you have the (brain) power, it is possible to switch the apparent direction of the dancer’s rotation. With some viewers, the shift in direction of rotation occurs spontaneously. That still does not change the fact that we all initially see her spinning either clockwise or counterclockwise, and this is no trick, However, I’m not necessarily convinced that the difference in perception is related to brain hemisphere dominance. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t.
Please see ‘Braindancer’ on my website where you can manually change the direction of the dancer’s spin, and give her a partner.
I redid Mr. Kayahara’s animation to ensure that there was no trickery involved, and to get that dancer’s foot back on the ballroom floor.
Check it out.

When I watch the dancer, she changes direction randomly, however what really intrigued me was that on a couple of occasions she doesn’t turn at all, she just flips…. right . left…right…left. Has anyone else experienced this? I’ve also watched her with someone else and we both see different directions, so I’m thinking she’s not fake.
it changes direction quickly.Just look closer and concentrate.
It’s not fake, just misguided.
For all intensive purposes, this is not not a left side of brain / right side of brain test or indicator.
It has to do view angle / perception bias.
Easy way to prove this is if you look at the image with the monitor tilted back and lean back, you will see the dancer turning counter clockwise, if you lean forward, you will see it moving clockwise again.
People see it moving clockwise because they have their monitors configured at similar heights and angles.
Squinting or looking at it sidewards could also change it up.
THIS IS FAKE. Check it out, don’t look at just her feet, she alternates bouncing from her right to left foot. You have to be looking at her whole body to catch when they switch it. If she is bouncing on her right foot she turn clockwise when she is bouncing on her left she turns counter clock wise. Just to be sure I had my 6yr old daughter watch with me I said say switch if or when she changes direction she saw it exactly at the same time as me. If you believe this is real you are being duped people, watch it again and check out when she switches feet 🙂
